ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

You know the brainpower is there, but somehow things are not working out. Procrastination, disorganization and impulsive behaviour are the order of the day. At last, new research suggests a way to go.

ADHD

ADHD is a complicated and frustrating package. It keeps people troubled and in trouble. We now know, that they are primarily victims of a poor working memory.

The IQ's of individuals with ADHD are normally distributed, but they struggle to be smart in school and with day to day tasks. The reason is, they have a deficit in working memory, the cornerstone of ordered thought.

Fortunately, research now confirms that working memory is not fixed, and that it can be trained in an enjoyable way on the computer. By doing working memory training, we can expand and enlarge our working memory capacity dramatically. Not only can our working memory be trained, but also as a direct result of computerized working memory training, our dopamine system is activated. This is the brain system that gives us a happy feeling from doing something well, along with the joyful feeling of reward that comes from having done so. This has enormous consequences in everything we do, every day, whether at home inside the family, in school, or at work.

We need Dopamine to Think

Perhaps the most important partner we have to helps us harness our full brainpower is a substance called Dopamine, which is broadly distributed throughout the brain in our Dopamine system.

A properly functioning Dopamine system is essential to working memory capacity. Either too much or too little dopamine is not good. You need to have just the right amount of dopamine transmission to have an optimum working memory. Studies now tell us that working memory training activates the dopamine system and changes the density of the dopamine receptor sites! The working memory training therefore stimulates the dopamine system and the dopamine system assists the working memory training, all to cognitive effect. There is strong new evidence to suggest that intense and systematic computer based training with working memory has great promise for both cognitive and behavioural improvement in people with ADHD.

The working memory of children with ADHD can be improved by computer based training in working memory. Working memory is absolutely the best predictor of academic success. As one of several cognitive approaches, the training of working memory tasks can enhance executive functioning including working memory, response inhibition and reasoning in children with ADHD.

Significant enhanced effects are shown in tasks measuring verbal working memory, response inhibition and complex reasoning.

Importantly, parent ratings demonstrated significant reduction in symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity or impulsivity. Overall the effect sizes of reduction of inattention are clinically strong. The individuals who would be expected to benefit from training of working memory are those individuals for whom inattention problems cause a bottleneck for day to day functioning, academic performance or a quest for higher grades.

Brain Magic

Brain Magic working memory training targets the very brain function which is key to every conscious mental process. Whether we are reading, writing, speaking, listening, solving problems, playing an instrument, or just plain thinking, working memory comes into play. With the Brain Magic protocol it is possible to increase working memory capacity 50% while increasing fluid intelligence ( a composite brain capability involving processing speed, working memory and multi-tasking and high order processing) by more than 40%.

Brain Magic uses the most sophisticated and effective training protocol available. Its online training mode eases you through stages of progress and adjusts automatically to your growing skills. Your daily progress is graphed and you always know how you are doing. You will be excited at your progress and will want to forge ahead with the next level, but it is better to be patient. Do one day’s exercises and sleep on it. Consolidation of the gains that you have made takes place while you sleep. If you miss a day, don’t worry. Just pick up where you left off. The more you train the more you gain. And as the progressive training continues the gains continue.
